Dubai, UAE: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced today that it has completed the integration of more than 3,000 vehicle registration numbers into its open automobile database to build an online vehicle registration system which will speed up vehicles registration process and boost Dubai’s position as a global mobility hub.
This revolutionary service will significantly reduce the time required for vehicle registration by more than half, according to a press statement issued by the RTA. The whole process will be completed within 30 minutes from the time the customer reaches the RTA’s sales centres, once the relevant documents are presented.

The new service provides vehicle owners an opportunity to transfer ownership via multiple payment options to serve different customers with equal ease and provide convenience to motorists. It also allows them to complete the transfer with ease and in a timely manner, while allowing different customer segments to complete their transactions in different ways.
According to the RTA’s statistics, the number of vehicles registered at its facilities in Dubai stood at more than 137,000 at the end of 2018, which means more than 19 vehicles registered on average daily.
Total number of registered vehicles in Dubai amounted to 318,433 at the end of 2017, which means about 65,000 new vehicles are added annually in the Emirate. These figures make Dubai a hub for new vehicle ownership, especially in the region where the population of vehicles reaches 140 million every year.
The City of Gold being in the world’s top four global cities for vehicle ownership, registered car and light commercial vehicle numbers in the emirate are expected to continue growing for at least another two decades.
This move is aligned with the strategic direction of the RTA to reduce travel time through diversification in its development and implementation of transportation policies, aimed at providing a seamless driving experience for all its customers and stakeholders.
It also focuses on allowing motorists to use their vehicles for daily purposes as per the fulfilment of the UAE Vision 2021 vision to build a smart city for which smart applications and automated services are the way to go.
“We have launched this move at a time when the Dubai Frame Project will be ready to host the latest image of the city of Dubai, after eight years of being under construction.
The RTA is at the forefront in the development of the latest technologies which includes automated road systems and smart road management, which will facilitate easy and safe driving in future.
RTA Chairman and CEO, Mattar Al Tayer said, “With this move, we are ahead of our competitors and taking a lead in the UAE. This move would bring the RTA closer to Dubai Smart City, the visionary project that aims to develop various projects in sectors such as smart energy, smart health care, smart transportation and smart living.
We are proud of the customer-oriented approach and progressive role which RTA has taken in the smart mobility field. We are committed to make all our processes faster and more convenient to facilitate the lives of our customers,” he added.
These steps are part of a wider framework of smart transportation services that RTA is offering in Dubai.
These services are an integral part of Dubai’s strategy to build smart city in line with UAE Vision 2021.
