Shark Tank turned out to be one of the most popular reality shows of the year (i.e. 2021) it was released. It’s the Indian version of the world’s number-one business reality series that premiered on Aug 9, 2001 on ABC. The show is the American franchise of the international format Dragons’ Den, which originated in Japan as Money Tigers in 2001. It shows entrepreneurs making business presentations to a panel of investors or “sharks”, who decide whether to invest in their companies. It is a thought provoking show which acts as a platform for recognition and investment for the budding entrepreneurs.
Shark Tank Season 1 served its purpose to the fullest – be it Jugaddu Kamlesh’s impressive pitch or the bizarre belly button shaper – the season witnessed some amazing and mind-boggling pitches. While some pitchers won the hearts of the judges (along with investment), others stunned the judges with the level of creativity that Indians had. The show also gave us some of the most popular memes that are laugh-worthy.
It’s coming back!
The good news is that this entrepreneur-based reality show is coming back with a season 2.
The phenomenal success of season 1 was inspiring enough for Sony entertainment television to bring it back. It is going to premiere in the first week of Jan, making it a perfect New Year gift for all the show lovers.
The comeback was announced by releasing a series of interesting promos that perfectly captured the essence and impact of season 1.
A series of promos that was released on the show’s instagram handle beautifully captured the interesting opportunities that India presents and gave a unique insight into the psyche of people. It also highlighted the fact season 1 acted as a knowledge leader and made everyone (who even had a slight inclination towards business) more informed about the technicalities of the business industry.
One of the promos shows a woman haggling over vegetables with a vendor. She sarcastically quips that the whole cart of his could not be more than Rs 70. In turn, the latter patiently explains that his cart is worth more than Rs 70 lakh – charting out his business model and surprising her. This negotiation and business valuation sits at the heart of the show. Another promo depicts the process of preparing for a pitch.
The promo’s caption reads: ‘Ab pura India business ki sahi value samjhega! #SharkTankIndia season 2.

Of course, that season’s most famous and most controversial shark, Ashneer Grover, shall not be part of the upcoming season. But the main reason behind the show’s popularity was – the imaginative and innovative entrepreneurs who would present their business ideas during each show and not the personal lives of the sharks.
