  • Kuari Pass: Its History

 

Its history can be traced back to 1905 when Lord Curzon, Bill Tilman, and Eric Shipton explored Kuari Pass in their pioneering explorations. This is when the Kuari Pass Trek got famous and came to be known as The Curzon Trail. Critics also say that Lord Curzon improved the path to do the trek. 

 

Lord Curzon reached Kuari Pass Trek in 1905 from Ghat through Ramni and even crossed the five major rivers of that region – the Pindar, Mandakini, Bheriganga, Kaliganga, and Dhauliganga. This is the reason why the trek is so famous among American and European travelers.

  • Rishikesh → Joshimath (Day 1)

  • Time taken: 9 – 10 hours
  • Pick-up location: Rishikesh Railway Station, Rishikesh.
  • Pick-up time: 6:30 AM 

 

  1. Joshimath → Dhak → Gulling Top (Day 2) 

 

  • Distance of the drive: 12 km (from Joshimath to Dhak Village)
  • Altitude: 9,600 ft/ 2,900m 
  • Here, you’ll see some of the breathtaking mountain ranges namely HathiParvat, Dronagiri, and GoriParvat.
  • Distance of the drive from Dhak Village to Gulling Top: 5km of trekking. 

 

  1. Gulling Top Trek → Tali Forest Camp (Day 3)

 

  • Distance of the drive: 5.5 km
  • Altitude: 11,000 ft/ 3,350m
  • Time Taken: 5 hours approx.
  • Here, you’ll have a steep climb experiencing dark forests and nature trails. 

 

  1. Talu Forest Camp → Kuari Pass and back (Day 4)

  • Distance of the drive: 7-10 km
  • Altitude: 12,500 ft/ 3,800m
  • Time taken: 5-6 hours
  • Here, your journey will start from Khullar summit to a broken beach which will take you towards Kuari Pass. 

 

  1. Tali Forest Camp → Joshimath via Gurson Bugyal and Auli (Day 5)

 

  • Altitude: 6,750 ft/ 2,050m
  • While traveling towards Joshimath, you’ll head towards Auli which is one of the best skiing places in India. 

 

  1. Joshimath → Rishikesh (Day 6)

 

  • After having the last breakfast here, your ride will begin at 6 AM. 
  • You’ll reach Rishikesh around 8 PM.
